welcome!

On behalf of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the High Tech Club, welcome to the High Tech Conference 2005.

The Stanford GSB High Tech Conference brings together more than 300 students, professionals and leading technology executives each year to discuss the latest trends in the technology industry. This year’s conference theme is “Technological Darwinism: Land of Opportunity or Battle for Survival?” Globalization, intense competition, increasing consolidation, and ground-breaking innovation: these are all fundamental forces currently transforming the profile of the High Tech Industry. These changes can represent either opportunities or obstacles for both incumbents and challengers. The 2005 High Tech Conference seeks to explore these issues across an array of industry segments and critical industry trends.

We are welcoming over 30 distinguished guest speakers who have graciously accepted our invitation to engage in lively discussions across a wide range of pertinent topics. Our opening keynote speaker, Ray Lane, currently a General Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and vision drawn from a wealth of experience at several of the world’s foremost technology companies, including eight years at Oracle as President and COO. Jonathan Schwartz will cap off the afternoon as our closing keynote speaker. Expect a lively and interactive discussion with Sun Microsystem’s President and COO, who is transforming the computer systems company into a dynamic industry leader.

Thank you for your interest. We certainly hope that you will join us to enjoy this unique event!

Rob Hansen & Yan Zhu
Conference Co-Chairs
